Getting Grants by Building Win-Win Partnerships

There will be a brief update on the work of the Slocan Valley Community Legacy Society and the projects we have funded thus far through the Slocan Valley Legacy Fund.

The workshop will focus on how non-profit societies can partner with registered charities to get grants and how registered charities can increase their capacity to undertake great projects by partnering with non-profits.

The Osprey Community Foundation manages and holds the Slocan Valley Legacy Fund and is the entity that actually makes the grants from our Fund.
As a registered charity and a public foundation, Canada Revenue Agency regulations require that Osprey can only fund projects put forward by registered charities. Thus the Slocan Valley Legacy Fund can only fund registered charities.

But that doesn’t mean the wonderful non-profit societies that so enrich our communities can’t get grants, they just have to PARTNER with a charity or other qualified donee as determined by CRA. This workshop will look at forming win-win relationships that benefit both the non-profit and the charity: as with dating, there has to be a good match!

We’ll discuss how groups can lay out their relationship with an Agency Agreement, a letter that clearly articulates how the project will get done and establishes financial accountability.

Each workshop will also feature a panel discussion of folks from local charities who will share best practices, what works and what doesn’t work
, and share their perspectives.
