Krestova was settled comparatively early by Doukhobor pioneers who made this part of the Valley their communal lands – the Sons Of Freedom rooting in The New Settlement.
These hardy pioneers farmed the arid land around them. The lack of water was a huge challenge, and they became very inventive in methods of irrigation and water storage. Today Krestova still exists, populated by Doukhobors and others.
While there is not much to see here other than pastoral small farms, remnants of history, and the interesting sign at the entrance to the New Settlement, Krestova is an important mention because of its historical importance to the Slocan Valley and the history of the Doukhobor settlement in Canada.
