Hills, a few kms north of Rosebery is a rural residential area dotted with small farms. Like other places in the valley, Hills used to be a lumber siding.
It is now more famous for the Hills Garlic Festival, which takes place the weekend after Labour Day.This funky Kootenay festival whose slogan is “Where culture meets agriculture” is a fall harvest market centred around the theme of our smelly friend – garlic. Garlic farmers, food artisans, craftspeople, bluegrass musicians, and the usual Kootenay characters fit this slogan to a tee. NOTE: Due to its tremendous success, the Garlic Festival has moved to New Denver which is more capable of handling its size.
