Sew Much More in New Denver
Sew Much More in New Denver
Say hello to Kathy, owner of Sew Much More in New Denver. It’s the “biggest little yarn shop in the Kootenays” and you can bet the shop is just as charming as Kathy is.
For the last eight years, Kathy has loved providing fabrics, yarns, felting supplies, patterns, quilting fabric and like the name says...so much more...to her community. But it’s not all about helping make people’s crafting and creating dreams come true, it’s about the relationships she’s formed with customers. As Kathy said, people become more than just customers, they become friends.
Even though COVID is currently putting a damper on events, in normal times, Kathy also loves to bring people together with events like yarn tastings and the fibre arts festival, FibreFeelia Fest. At the end of the day, she finds a lot of fulfillment in helping people find their inspiration and giving them the tools they need to make magnificent creations.

Raven Acupuncture and Raven Roast
Raven Acupuncture and Raven Roast
Say hi to Brendan. He’s the owner of not one but TWO businesses here in the Valley: Raven Acupuncture and Raven Roast in Slocan. Not only does Brendan have an amazing beard, he has a heart of gold. He’s invested in building healthy communities in the West Kootenay by making acupuncture an accessible treatment option for everyone. And he’s really really good at it.
He’s a busy guy. He sees about 30 people a week and he only works 3.5 days. And then he’s got his amazing side hustle, Raven Roast. Are you looking to recover from coffee? Avoid the jitters and the afternoon crash with Raven Roast. It’s a delicious full bodied coffee alternative, and is made up of gluten free, organic roasted herbs. It’s delicious.
Brendan is seriously an amazing person and cares so much about the people he treats and serves. Even through COVID, he has found a way to heal his community, with all safety precautions in place.
When you choose to buy local, you support business owners like Brendan. And our whole community thrives. #shopslocanvalley

Nomads Hemp Wear
Nomads Hemp Wear
Meet Anik and Louis, owners of your favourite Slocan Valley clothing brand, Nomads Hemp Wear. You would never be able to tell by their vibrant young energy that these two lovebirds have been in business for over 20 years. Yep, that’s right! From their simple beginnings slinging hemp clothing out of an old beat up van with Anik on her sewing machine and Louis constantly having to explain his purple hands from dying clothing….to being a global sustainable eco fashion business - Nomads Hemp Wear has come a long way.
But their enthusiasm and drive has never changed nor has their love for the Slocan Valley and the people in it. Tucked into the wilderness is their humble homestead, a beautiful warehouse they built themselves, surrounded by cedars, and the flowing river nearby. As self-described country bumpkins, they say there’s nowhere else they’d rather be. We couldn’t agree more. Anik and Louis are truly grateful to each and every one of you for rocking their clothing and supporting them on their wild ride.

He also loves books...which is why Raven’s Nest makes a concerted effort to stock as many local and regional books as possible (like the one he’s holding!). This beautiful store also features some of the best natural fibre clothing designers including Slocan Valley’s own, Nomads hemp wear.

“Without our loyal local customers we would not be here, nor could we have stayed open year round for 15+ years. For us, though, it's much more than our customers. Like other Valley businesses we strive to support our neighbours and community as much as we can, and we currently have more local suppliers than ever...we are learning to appreciate more and more how blessed we are to live in this beautiful valley and what extraordinary folks we have right here, all around us."
